First Tuesdays, October 2 through May 6, 7:30-9:00 p.m. The Power of Myth in Movies Cinema is a powerful and captivating medium for exploring the archetypal nature of our experience as human beings. Using eight contemporary films as a springboard, we will explore a rich variety of mythic themes. Each session will begin with a brief presentation about an aspect of myth central to the movie being discussed. Then we will move to an animated, yet focused discussion. We will include questions asking us to reflect on how the mythic dimension of each films relates to the development of our personal myths. Led by Richard Stromer, who has a doctorate in mythological studies and world sacred traditions as viewed from the perspective of depth psychology. Suggested Donation: $40. To register, call Richard Stromer (510) 682-6302 or Lynnette Delgado (510) 799-0747. At the UU Church of Berkeley. |

Third Sunday of every month (Sept. 16, Oct. 21, and more), 9:40 a.m. The Bible: Not Just for Fundamentalists The premise of this series, led by Jim Craig, is that the Bible was not intended to be read literally. Rather, by reading it as literature, we can discover some very rich moral and psychological insights. Jim is a former Presbyterian minister (now a Unitarian) and taught comparative religion at an eastern boys school for many years. The series will be especially helpful to those who just want to know some of the great stories in the Bible AND to those who, earlier in life, turned off on the Bible altogether because they were expected to accept everything in the book without question. In this series, there will be lots of questions. UU Fellowship of North Bay. Join us at 1515 Pueblo in Napa. |
