About Unitarian Universalism

Are you looking for a community, fellowship, or a place to explore and perhaps deepen your spirituality? Our UU congregations may be just what you're looking for. Learn more about us ...

Unitarian Universalism is a spiritually alive, justice-centered religion. Our members search for truth along many paths. In any UU congregation you are likely to find people who identify as Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, Atheists, Agnostics, Humanists, and more. Instead of centering our religion on specific beliefs, we gather around shared moral values.

As Unitarian Universalists we affirm and promote …

Justice & Diversity
Working for civil rights and combating oppression are essential parts of our spiritual journey. Our faith community has worked for justice for hundreds of years, from advocating for free speech and the free practice of religion as far back as the fifteen hundreds to helping to abolish slavery and supporting women's rights beginning in the eighteen hundreds. We continue to work for justice today in ways that resonate with our principles, from protecting our environment to standing up for the bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people.

History
Unitarian Universalism emerged from two different religions: Unitarianism and Universalism . Both Unitarianism and Universalism started in Europe hundreds of years ago. The Universalist Church of America was founded by 1793, and the American Unitarian Association by 1825. In 1961, these denominations consolidated to form the new religion of Unitarian Universalism .

We need not think alike to love alike.” — Unitarian minister Francis David
